The main responsibility still lies with parents. Kids will bypass any restrictions given a little time. At 14 I was bypassing my schools IT restrictions and content filters.

It’s a good job we can still close this funny looking box with ‘Pandora’ written on it after we opened it back in the 2000’s. More performative bollocks as per.

How has this worked in other countries? Is it enforceable?

9 months ago he said no more self regulation for social media.. how has he progressed so far on that issue? 🌬️

Feck that, could we not get it for under 50’s or something?

Ban it and legally enforce everyone going back to the 3210.

      Snake and texting, yes please.

(And before anyone mentions it you can fuck off with 3310s and Snake 2.)

While we can work on multiple issues at once, we absolutely have many many issues that are far more important than this performative bollocks.

Corrupt governments just want to censor citizens sadly. Such laws do nothing for kids.

Ads encouraging parents and schools to ban phones might be better.

The youth aren’t growing up to be lefty weirdos like planned so they’re going to ban them from social media.

Everyone go home and watch Adolescence on Netflix as punishment.

Funny how the two countries championing banning teens from social media are the same ones pushing hate speech laws. I wonder if the two are connected.

Oh, wow, FFFG doing something useful.

Well…just talking about it and collecting polling data…

You can’t ban everything , anymore than they could ban children in cars, but parental controls and app restrictions SHOULD be introduced. You can set up profiles on devices with restricted access, parental controls, passwords, timers etc. To many don’t do it because we’ve left smart technology become this thing where you pick it up and use it without understanding it. Even your driving lessons make you name the car parts under the hood.

We can’t do nothing but I’d seriously want the current government to actually educate themselves on these devices before trying to implement bans

Anything except make social media corporations actually police & be responsible their content.

An issue too is that nearly every secondary school has a Facebook and a WhatsApp page where they post news from the day of what students were doing and their images.. parents give consent on behalf of the child. It’s still unfair and of course the young person will want to see the photos of themselves that are up online.

My own niece was upset that one of the photos were taken when she was in first year without her being ready and she felt very self conscious over it.

It isn’t fair. Strangers don’t need to be aware of all these updates and images too from public Facebook and Instagram pages.

It’s a messy one. This needs to be addressed. Update parents well and good, but that’s it. Someone under 18 can’t give actual consent, even if there is a discussion with the parents a child wouldn’t want to opt out and be seen as the one odd one.

I really disagree with it. It seems contradictory teenagers being controlled around social media and yet they are being used in some ways to promote the school in the community

Id be completely fine with this. Social media should definitely be restricted for minors.

Best of luck with that Simon. Let us know when you’ve figured out how to get the toothpaste back in the tube .

I’m I the only one that thinks Drugs and anti social behaviour should be a bigger issue when it comes to youth. The goverment has usual always has screwed priorities it seems.

    16. Why 16. Ban them entirely and let’s be done with it. Absolutely useless platforms that offer no value and only exists to sell info about you
