According to Garda statistics, use of force by members of the police dealing with anti-social and other forms of violent behaviour was required 530 times in Cork City in the first seven months of last year, averaging out at just over 75 incidents per month, or over 900 times in total in 2024.
Hate crimes are also on the rise nationally, with 36 in total reported to Gardaí in the Cork City division, according to figures released last week.
They only mentioned having more Gardai which is not the real issue here. The real issue is the same small group of people causing mayhem with dozens to hundreds of convictions still being given suspended and very short sentences for crimes due to the justice system and the lack of prison spaces.
