Seemingly the price of cattle at mart sales has been rising steadily over the past few months… driven by factors like strong demand from the UK, competition among processing factories, and a “tightness of supply” in beef production. Some reports indicate prices have risen by 34% year-on-year and are significantly higher than a year ago.

Dunnes have them for 13e for regular Irish beef, or 16e for Angus beef. Never heard of Hereford, so not sure if it’s meant to be some better quality or just a naming convention

    3. Super Valu is such an ironic name, anything but Valu kn there!

Could we start importing cheaper meat from Brasil and the USA?

As much as I prefer our own produce, I also value the contents of my wallet.

Tesco 20% increase from last year, fire pit range used to be 3 for 10€ now it’s 2 for 8€

And you’ll pay it like a good lad. Which is why they can keep increasing prices

You’d be surprised what deal you find at your local butchers. I started visiting butchers and green grocers because I wanted better quality meat and veg and was willing to pay a premium but I usually end up paying the same whilst getting much better produce. Fuck the likes of bis chain super markets, of they’re not competitive, why should I give the my business for the types of stuff. The “convenience” argument is wearing thinner every day

Honestly Id rather go veggie than eat tainted meat from US

I stopped buying steak from SuperValu when I saw that price. You can get the same or better in Lidl for a few euro cheaper

At least some of the reason is that factories have been having a real hard time finding a supply of cattle for their slaughter houses, and the shortage peaked about a month or 6 weeks ago.

so accounting for aging the meat id think this price increase checks out.

The unfortunate truth is that beef farmers in this country need the prices to be higher to make it sustainable. Most are making ends meet with government grants unless theyre farming at a massive scale altogether

Often see them on sale in supervalu at 20-40% off cause noone is buying them at these silly prices and even then there’s often a couple of dozen of them that probably end up in a bin.
