Waterford radio station confirms it. Doesn’t give a specific reason, but looks like they didn’t want the embarrassment of the players breaking the “rules” so the game has been delayed until the rules can be changed.

It’s a farce, they’ve had years to sort this issue. Top athletes deserve better than a championship game being called off with less than 24 hours notice.

Looks like they realized it was going to be a skort protest and they didn’t want to see the optics of it.

Am I missing something here? What does it actually matter if they’re wearing shorts instead of skorts? I can’t actually see the logic behind players not being allowed to wear shorts. Just seems really silly.

Do the GAA have no PR people? Or are they just all morons?

    5. PR disaster.

They should have convened an emergency meeting…..get the motion passed.

Are we really, in 2025, trying to tell young women what to wear? Jesus Christ what a pathetic organisation, it feels like a Father Ted episode! Fair play to the players for sticking to their principles

Where were all the players making representations when the last Congress motions were held? Strong arm protest …and if the Congress motion doesn’t go the way they want it they just defy it? Seems like this is something that will always go a certain way eventually anyway, 27 or a near future Congress. Victory might be attained but a lot of bad will generated….plus has made a right show of the sport nationally and internationally.

This is fucking daft, let the women wear shorts if they want.

With less than 24hrs notice, that’s fucked!
I’m sure many people have made plans around the event.

The GAA should be ashamed that they let the issue reach a boiling point like this- completely detracts from the sport itself and places the focus on such a pointless issue

Let the players wear whatever they feel most comfortable playing in…as long as its team approved, what’s the issue?

Pretty weird hill to die on. Like sure, due process needs to happen but they could’ve allowed for the (stupid) rule to be “broken” until the meeting happens. It wouldn’t set a negative precedent.

    13. Always thought it was super weird how it has a different name. Why is it not just called Hurling with the woman’s ripest ?

      Weirdos
