Tunisia has more popes than Spain, that was not obvious to me. Shows how powerful Carthage was late into the Roman Empire.

Why do people say the latest pope is from Peru? He was born in USA so he is clearly only from USA

It’ll be a cold day in hell before I recognise the incorrect spelling of Turkey

For those wondering why Portugal has 2:

Damasus I, the Pope from 366 to 384. Though as the year suggests, he was born in the Roman empire, in the province of Lusitania.

Then you have John XXI, the only ethnically Portuguese Pope, and only physician pope, in history. From September 1276 to May 1277 (roof of his home fell on top of him). In his book “Inferno”, Dante put John XXI in heaven contrary to many other religious figures

Something I realized: Leo is only the third Pope born in a country entirely outside the borders of the Roman Empire

Kind of mad that we had one.

There will never be a Barry II.

    7. I wonder why there’s never been an Irish pope. For some reason you’d think there would have been

Does this mean that the current pope is the only one in history to have dual citizenship?

Dang Italy so greedy, hoarding all the popes, how do they fit them all even

Fact that the brits got one and the Irish didn’t is just another reason to step away from the church.
