This will have a catastrophic impact on patient care and treatment.

Who would’ve thought they’d see this from a Labour government.

      For shame.

    3. cmfarsight on

Can’t have waiting lists if you don’t provide that service. Genius really.

I never thought I would regret voting Labour… but here we are.

There are thousands of pointless middle-managers who absolutely need to go. There are four band 7 and above members of staff in the dept I work in, all have “quality” or “performance” in their title and all of them combined have made no difference to the quality of performance of our dept. They just sit on teams all day and go home early, it’s a disgrace that anyone working clinically should lose their job while these time wasters are safe.

    6. We can already see it on the wards. Bank and agency staff are becoming nearly non-existent because we can’t get authorization for them. If someone calls in sick I have to get in call duty manager on the phone, leave a message with their assistant and wait for a call back for them to quiz me on how many patients I have and how poorly they are and then if they deem it worth it. They’ll kick it up to an executive to give the authorization for me to call bank office and say please push the shift out for someone to cover.

The government spokes person in the linked article talks about inefficiencies in the NHS, but provides no concrete examples. I wonder what those will be?

Reliance on agency staff, rather than actual employees? Bed blocking due to lack of social care?

I find it hard to believe that there is much inefficiency that can be solved by reducing medical staff.

The NHS is about providing healthcare to those who can’t pay for it. Sounds pretty damn woke to me!!!! Abolish it, let the weak die and strong survive. That is what the British public seem to want.

So less staff will give better service ??

      How ??

Overworked staff don’t work harder, just because someone tells them to.

With their new immigration cuts, that is just the beginning

As a nurse, This has been going on for months. There is no jobs available and my hospital has cut bank shifts and dropped the rate of pay for overtime to standard pay so there is no incentive to do extra shifts.

    12. So we have the answer.

To solve the waiting times due to poor future planning that caused understaffing.

We intend to fix it with more understaffing.

The trust I work for is broke and voluntary redundancy is offered to admin staff right now. Soon it will be forced redundancy and it could spread to clinical areas. Locum pay has been cut and that affects us because this is a high cost of living area, but also because we rely on them to plug the gaping holes caused by no one wanting to work for us. Unless our managers muck in, we are going to be in a very dangerous situation from a patient care perspective.

I’m not sure what has upset you. I politely offered an alternative view.

Yes I might have used a day point that you don’t feel relevant but that was used in conjunction with my personal experience within the NHS.

I didn’t feel the need to offer my CV to support a viewpoint and given some of the view expressed on Reddit, that approach seems normal.

I have a different opinion and regardless of what that is based on, it’s ok to have differing opinions.

Wasn’t the whole premise of getting rid of / merging NHS England, to bring the NHS under more control of the department of health and social care, was to save money and increase efficiency.

What I don’t understand is with that objective in mind why the NHS is aggressively downsizing staff and stripping everything back when failure to provide healthcare translates into economic inefficiency because it’s impacts the workforce

    16. You’re literally moaning on Reddit about ‘band 7s doing f all’. You’ve been in the same department for ten years, do you have any idea how many moving parts there are in the rest of the system?

What is a huge travesty is that nobody knows because the capacity to understand the whole system and the way different parts interact doesn’t exist. Why? Because that management layer isn’t there.

Thank goodness, now we’ll have enough money for the really critical services to the wellbeing of a populace… like… healthcare…

    18. > Hospitals in England are cutting staff, closing services and planning to ration care in order to make “eye-watering” savings demanded by NHS bosses.

      > Rehabilitation centres face being shut, talking therapies services cut and beds for end-of-life care reduced as part of efforts by England’s 215 NHS trusts to comply with a “financial reset”.

I wonder. In medical care, usually the cost of treatment is expensive and scales with the condition or ailment. Why not like cost savings but cutting heads and services, why not just stop treating patients? Those that are treatable get treated and those who can’t, be written off. That would save a lot and there won’t be returning customers. It also incentivized people to be healthy since treatment can be scarce. So everyone looks after themselves?

      I worked for a department that has….

      2 x band 8s
      2 x band 7s
      3 x band 6s
      1 x band 5
      1 x band 3
      1 x band 2

The 3 lowest bands do 70 percent of the work.

    20. ThewisedomofRGI on

The ward I work, have a band 7 who takes about 12 fag breaks a day and has an attendance of about 40 percent. Sacking the p*ss takers who abuse the sickness policy would save a fortune . This guy has had every illness going, and must have caught covid over 30 times.

Same in my trust so much middle management it’s unreal,I’ll start with waste management 4 of them
Walking round sticking stickers on bins saying put waste in here and having a full blown conversation over it,then buying a new larger bin to put bottles In only to be thrown in with the rest anyway

and staff engagement teams making posters to be put where nobody gives a toss trying to drag morale back through a hedge

and manager over manager has been the same for 30 years then introduce mars to pay them off,or hitting the foot soldiers let’s lose a min wage weekend shift what’s already cut to the bone Anyway,

there’s definitely something happening further up the line they seem to be about more in fear of there own jobs so watching every body else

,the nhs is a ticking time bomb so many staff who will be retired in the next 10 years,i work with 10 people and between us we have 220 years service nobody is coming in student nurses I can count on 2 hands when once there’s over a 40,

my wife 37 years service loads like her all retiring next 5 to 10 years and nobody coming in,they’ve raided other country’s nurses I can definitely see a private source coming in more and more over the next few years Subico etc

and then a massive lawsuit over pensions as well will happen over how they have moved the goalposts over the years the nhs is on a downwards trajectory unfortunately and I can’t see it getting any better and all nhsp payments slashed and management saying oh you will all come crawling back to me for £13 a hour let’s see how that ends lol

Apart from that alls well 😉
