I have a holiday home down in Wexford. There’s a community about a mile down the road which has around 67 houses that before the war in Ukraine, would house visitors and has some permenant residents.

The location was chosen to house those Ukrainian refugees and from what I gathered, the owner of the location is making an absolute killing and has literally zero incentive for it to return to what it was before. He has guaranteed accommodation, doesn’t need to have cleaners in to sort the houses out and makes a decent amount of money per house. It’s a shame the guy is such a notorious prick, but it’s good that these people have a community of familiarity and a safe location. On the other side of the coin, I feel bad for the permenant residents who bought and have seen a total change in their situation and surroundings.

So reading stuff like this doesn’t surprise me, hotels that may have been struggling to get 10 people during the week now have guaranteed payments from the government. I imagine it’ll continue and as a result, the prices of hotels that are available will continue to skyrocket to even further laughable amounts.

What’s the difference? Ukrainians are asylum seekers as well.

Is there any ire being directed towards whoever owns the Avon hotel?

Government just hands all its problems over to the private sector to resolve.

Tried to book a room for the Fleadh and I’m left having to pay €260 for a hotel room in Wexford on a weekday in August.

      State of this country.

The issue isnt that the Hotel is going to be used, it’s that there doesn’t seem to be a plan after that. Either just renovate the hotel or build a different site permanent for asylum accommodation or speed up the assylm process so there is less people waiting in assylum accommodation to know their fate.

The vast majority of the people coming here seeking asylum are not genuine refugees. Everybody knows that by now.

Why is my tax going towards making wealthy people wealthier, while encouraging people to come here who, let’s face it, will on average receive significantly more from the welfare pot than they contribute?

The effects of chain migration will also lead to each person we accept, bringing in multiple people who will also need to be paid for by the state.

Many of these people will spend most of their time living here in some form of state provided accommodation, while young workers cannot afford a pot to piss in.

I am worried that the changes being made by the Labour government over in England will lead to Ireland receiving an even higher amount of freeloaders unless the government take decisive action now.

Most of these landlords have 5-10 years contracts with the state, so there’s no end in sight for these locations.

Sinn Féin going anti-trans and anti-refugee is going to piss off their loudest fans on here.

There’s some serious choice in the wording of this post.

      Here I fixed it
“Anger as west Wicklow hotel earmarked for non white asylum seekers when white Ukrainian asylum seekers leave”.

    10. When are bigots not angry. Their whole existence is a ball of misery and want others to feel the same
