Froelich di AFD sostiene il regime di Erdogan: la Turchia potrebbe non essere una democrazia liberale, ma non deve essere uno. Penso che sia il loro diritto naturale non adottare ideologie orientate al genere (LGBTQ+)

Tomasz Froelich, a far-right MP from the anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTI+ Alternative for Germany (AfD), made statements about Turkey during a session of the European Parliament. Froelich openly defended Turkey’s stance on the international stage and claimed that Turkey’s anti-LGBTI+ policies were a “natural right.”

      In his statement, Froelich said:

      >Brussels should avoid adopting an arrogant attitude toward Ankara. Turkey may not be a liberal democracy, but it doesn’t have to be. I see Turkey’s refusal to accept gender-based ideologies (LGBTI+) as its natural right. Ankara acted according to its own values, and there is nothing to criticize in that.

The Parliament highlighted LGBTI+ rights in its report on Turkey

The European Parliament recently drew attention to the situation of LGBTI+ rights in Turkey in its report regarding Turkey’s accession to the European Union. The Parliament, referring to a policy of impunity about hate crimes, stated the following:

      >The Parliament strongly condemns the ongoing violation of the fundamental rights of LGBTI+ individuals in Turkey and the failure to protect these rights, as well as the increase in hate speech, hate crimes, and discriminatory rhetoric, and the persistence of media stereotypes based on sexual orientation and gender identity; it points out that this discrimination is often endorsed by officials.
The most clear examples of this are the mass detentions during the 2023 Pride March and the ban on the march in 2024, while anti-LGBTI+ marches were permitted.
We call on Turkish authorities to immediately end the bans on events such as Pride Marches, including those held against homophobia.

The report, adopted on May 7 with 367 votes, stated that Turkey’s EU membership process could not be restarted under the current conditions, and that the accession process was indefinitely frozen due to democratic backsliding.

Shut the h*ll up. We are dealing with enough homophobia&transphobia in the country already . Stop promoting any more. Talk about your own country

    5. How is this party still operating in Germany? In a country like Turkey i would understand, in which even protesting against a much lesser evil could make you end up in jail, but i expected more from Germany tbh. Especially because of their history, i thought they should had learned their lesson by now.

Far right shouldn’t be tolerated in the globalized world we are living in. It’s a disease the humanity has to get rid off for good.

This what the MAGA and other far-right movements try to make people believe. That having a liberal-democracy with fundamental free speech and liberty equals LGBT and other far-leftist ideals. While both movements are the prime example of having a democracy in the first place. But only one of them wants to actively abolish the one thing that made the West the ideal form of government.

And thus they lift their numbers amongst Turkish immigrants in Germany.

    8. Visible_Bat2176 on

they want to capitalize on all the haters outhere and they are alot these days, whatever they hate, even if they hate between themselves, they will join forces thinking they will hate the others more than them. to lgbt community they say they hate islam, to islamists they say they only hate the bad islam, to immigrants they say they only hate illegal immigrants or the ones that do not work, to white germans they say they hate the immigrants etc and everyone is listening cheering in secret the other ones will get the hard treatment, not them!

      TL;DR I don’t agree with AfD here.

Yes, liberal democracy is not the only form of “legitimate” power, but the way they served “gender oriented ideologies” gives away American “identity politics” approach.

In my opinion it’s a bad way to look at it because, general rights, some of which are still lacking in EU in regards to LGBTQ+ people – are indeed (mostly) general and not some “politics”. Examples include: adoption, marriage, military service etc.

This approach effectively enables metronome of populist power balance, where “left wing” grants rights to marginalized groups (w/o constitutional changes) breaching the status quo by giving LGBTQ+ community more exclusively perceived rights in finale and the next swing “right wing” retracts this right on reactionary (w/o constitutional changes) – most recent American scenario.

Examples of more exclusively (perceived) rights: separated toilets, free medical coverage on non life threatening cases, employment quotas, legal protection on discrimination, special way to address – all of this is made for support and next day used as a punching bag. On propose.

Why do right wingers always have to sniff other people’s private parts? Like little doggies, but less cute.

Why can’t our so called “patriots” stop brown nosing foreign dictators?

    12. Suitable-Quiet5683 on

It doesn’t have to be “gender-oriented” simply adopting and applying laws for everyone involved is a staple of democracy. This also includes LGBTQ+ folk. I don’t get what’s so hard do understand for some people, we aren’t even at the level where people are given jobs etc. like it is in America, so it’s no point of argument that Erdoğan rejime has been pushed LGBTQ+ agendas. They are being pushed democratic agendas, which Erdoğan refuses to obey; while he came to power by vote.

There are countries whose populations are mostly fine with not being a liberal, western democracy. Turkey is not one of them. There is an immense, substantial movement of opposition to authoritarism and islamization within Turkey that regularly breaks out in massive protests. AfD is just showing its contempt for civil society here and living vicariously its own dreams of suppressing opposition through Turkey.

    15. You see, it’s queer folks’ fault that countries descend into fascism. These regimes can’t help themselves.

    16. voyagerdoge on

Of course, it is then also their natural right not to be part of the EU.

Do right-wingers really have nothing on their minds other than rubles and sex/gender?

Very short hop between “other states dont need to be democratic” to “we dont need to be democratic”

I was told by r/europes right-wingers that AfD is great protector of gays.

    24. this_is_jim_rockford on

That’s weird. A lot of Turks in Germany (the so called “almancı” kind) vote for Erdogan in the Turkish elections, who tells them to “integrate, but don’t assimilate”.

And now AfD, which is strongly anti-immigration, actually sides with Erdogan.

    25. gingerbreademperor on

Evidently, the extremist right’s ideology is a gender-oriented one, it’s the only thing they talk about and they never ever shut up about it.
