The UK is acting like it’s in a long-term commitment with the EU, but it’s cheating on the side with the US. When things get tough with the EU, they just go back to sucking up to the US.
It won’t work, and they need to choose whether they want to be serious with the EU or the US.
Trump is right now in the Middle East grifting for his own personal benefit. The UK should not be offering him a state visit.
It sure seems that the UK under Starmer is the real 51st state. Gargled some orange peen on tariffs, and now this?

Yeah, it is really hard to see the UK is a country that has clear principles. one day they hate trump, next they suck up to him. Hard to see a partner in a country that constantly tries to please everybody and being entirely opportunistic. Will please no one in the long run.
I think the UK sucking up to Trump is gross, but it probably is what needs to be done for the next 3.5 years. Just try to make it out the other side.
However Carney has a serious and fair gripe that the state visit is from the King, who is also the King of Canada, a country Trump is threatening very explicitly.
Whilst Canada has been threatened time and time again, the UK would rather sleep with Trump and Putin and betray themselves and their people. Carney is right, Charles shouldn’t claim to be king of Canada if he doesn’t give a shit
Look what they’re doing to trans people. Why would anyone not expect friendliness between Trump and them?
As a Canadian, I give thanks and respect to all of the Europeans who have shown support for us in these past months. These are stressful times, and it really shows you who your friends are.
Carney is so powerless and his economy is on the brink of recession due to the tariffs. He is in no position to say jack squat about how the UK conducts its foreign policy.

The problem is that people think the U.S. will change when Trump is gone. Have people not looked at the Republicans waiting in the wings? Think J.D. Vance is better, etc?. If you suck up to Trump, you are very much sucking up to the U.S. politically for future decades and are in bed with them. The way the electoral college works in the states and how on mass Republicans vote in the red districts, don’t expect anything different in the next election.
If it makes him feel better the average Brit is going to hurl abuse at him if there’s a ghost of a chance he can hear it.
And Carney was there in America on the 5th of May? What of it?
