Is there a reason why they charged you this much? did you pay the previous insurance as asked?

It is not a fine, but unpaid insurance premiums. You cannot retroactively cancel it, if you were insured.

Generally speaking, there are three probable explanations: a) you were insured (because the AOK Byern was not informed of you being insured by AOK Niedersachsen) b) you were not insured and the AOK Bayern made a mistake in assumed you were c) you did not pay your full contributions prior to changing insurers.

Addendum: how to proceed depends on what the reason for the owed amount is. The first thing would be to find that out, if you do not know already.

    It’s not a fine, it’s missing payments.

Something obviously went wrong in the accounting, so time to pick up that phone.

It’s not a fine, it’s the money they say you owe them. You need to call them right now, because you missed the deadline in this letter and so they’re going to start legal proceedings against you.

That’s not a fine. That’s what they say you owe in unpaid premiums. As long as you didn’t spend any time uninsured, this should be easy to clear up by calling them.

If I were to guess, it seems when you started your insurance with aok Niedersachsen, they didn’t inform aok Bayern. You might need to talk to both companies to get this cleared up.

Edit to add: have you gotten any other mail from them? The fact that you got this after the due date suggests the letter went to a wrong address first before reaching you.

I do not think that this is a “fine”. This is the sum of your monthly contributions – that you did not pay.

Did you pay your bills with AOK Nds? If so, you should relax BUT **call them** immediately! I guess you will not have to pay this.

They don’t want you no bad! You can just **talk to them**. But if you do not, you will be seized.

Show it to someone in your new AOK office. They will likely provide you with a membership confirmation which you can then in turn send to your old AOK to clarify things. Do not worry too much. You’ll have burocracy to deal with, but won’t have more to pay than maybe a small administrative fee.

I think you should call (and email as a backup) to AOK and explain everything, seems like there’s been a misunderstanding. You need to describe that you have switched from one AOK to another one and (as far as understand) were paying each month anyway? It’s possible this debt is due to a bureaucratic error, for example: 1) AOK Bayern might not have properly processed their switch to AOK Niedersachsen. 2) There might be missing documentation or deregistration from Bayern. If I were your id also mention explicitly that you didn’t receive any other notification of the debt before, that you see it for the first time. Also ask for a detailed and full breakdown of how this number was calculated.
Also, maybe they’ve missed you’re a student? This also should be as a main reference, this price is ridiculous.
So, just keep calling them until you get at least one call (if I’m not mistaken they register them, so that they see you are reaching out and don’t ignore them), and at the same time search for advice in your university (maybe an international office can recommend what to do, it won’t hurt asking them)
The main this you need to do is to act fast and don’t ignore it!!
