      > Josephine Wood from the charity told the BBC they had been approached by several local people who told them police had the wrong man, but they would not reveal the identity to detectives.

Wow, I wonder why the police didn’t act on this super useful information…

It’s a real problem on estates. The usual ‘snitches get stitches’ mindset is why antisocial behaviour and worse never gets dealt with properly. People are afraid of retaliation by those committing those, or by friends and family, because intimidation is rife. Frankly, those people should be ashamed that they let someone lose forty years of their life for a crime they did not commit.

Does the whole idea of snitches get stitches really extend to rapists/murderers?

Also not really surprising the police didn’t act upon the info

Well I hope those people can sleep well at night. I can understand people not dobbing in someone dealing a bit of weed or other minor crimes, but if a community protects a killer and rapist because they don’t want to be seen helping the police then fuck them. They deserve zero support from the police in return.

They mentioned the DNA technology used to acquit him was only discovered recently…..how recent?

      This sounds unlikely to me.

The DNA profile is on record so this would mean that the person can’t be a criminal or have criminal relations or surely the link would have popped up ?

As someone only a few KM/Miles from Birkenhead, I’m not surprised. The place is a shithole.
