The dynastic descendant of the late Kardam of Bulgaria and Miriam of Jordan is increasingly involved in repairing relations with other ruling royal families. Not much has been heard about the Bulgarian Royal Family, but one of the heirs is determined to restore the family to at least a little of the prestige it once had.
Boris of Bulgaria’s name made headlines around the world last year. The reason? His alleged relationship with Princess Amalia of the Netherlands. The hypothesis of a romance between the two young crown princes has aroused great expectations, with the rumors fueled by the fact that the two appeared arm in arm at the wedding of the Duchess of Medinaceli.
Indeed, the idyll seemed somehow appropriate for the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, as her partner had no throne to inherit and share, they both lived in Madrid, and their families were close friends. Not to mention the fact that Boris of Bulgaria already knows the “royal kitchen”, with its whole set of rules of conduct. Moreover, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands is very close to Queen Margrethe and King Simeon of Bulgaria, while Boris’s mother, Miriam of Hungary, became close to Amalia’s aunt Mabel after they were both widowed.
But, as with Prince Christian of Denmark and Maria Chiara of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, the fairytale bubble was soon burst and today they are just good friends. Now, while Crown Princess Amalia of the Netherlands continues her studies, the Prince of Turnovo is increasingly involved in the affairs of the former Bulgarian crown, under the wing of his grandfather, King Simeon.
*Who is Prince Boris of Bulgaria?*
Boris of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was born in Madrid in October 1997, the son of Prince Kardam and Miriam of Hungary. His father tragically passed away in 2015, and in 2022 his mother remarried, giving Boris a connection to another Royal Family, as his stepfather is Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, cousin of King Abdullah II of Jordan.
Boris also has a close relationship with the Bourbons, especially after the death of his father. For example, the publication “Mujer Hoy” mentioned him and his family as guests at the private party at El Pardo Palace on the occasion of Princess Leonor’s 18th birthday.
During his studies, Boris of Bulgaria spent several years in London, where he graduated in Fine Arts. During the coronavirus pandemic, he created a sculpture that he auctioned off to benefit an NGO. While studying in England, he was accompanied by his mother and also by his brother, Beltran, who chose to study physics.
Miriam of Bulgaria previously revealed how proud she is of her son for having forged his own path in life, far from being born into the Bulgarian royal family. Settled for some time in the Spanish capital, he completed his master’s degree in international relations and business at the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid last year.
*Prince Boris wants to revive the Bulgarian Crown*
In 1946, the monarchy was abolished in Bulgaria. The last Tsar was sent into exile, and the kingdom was replaced by a people’s republic. But, as in Greece, the Bulgarian Royal Family led by King Simeon continues to participate in many events related to the Crown. And Prince Boris, as the representative of his grandfather Simeon, is becoming increasingly important in these events.
After regaining his Bulgarian citizenship as Simeon Borisov of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and recovering his confiscated property, the former sovereign permanently moved to Bulgaria in 2001 as the leader and candidate of the Simeon II National Movement party and became Prime Minister.
His grandson, Prince Boris, frequently visits Sofia, the country’s capital, and recently gave a speech at a concert of the Bridges Foundation, an NGO that promotes dialogue between different religions. A few weeks earlier, he had returned to Bulgaria to attend a solemn service with his grandfather and did not want to miss the celebration of the 90th birthday of his grandmother, Queen Margarita Gomez-Acebo. All of these are important steps to strengthen his position in front of his family and the Bulgarian people, as he becomes increasingly involved in restoring relations with the other ruling royal families and wishes to revive the Bulgarian Crown and restore to the family at least a little of the prestige it once had.
Хубава принцеса, да я доведе в София и да вземе да си оправи царските имоти, че станаха змиярници и да ги пуснете за разходка на хората, както е в Европа.
