    1. The free speech ^^^for ^^^some crowd won’t like that he wants their hate suppressed.

      Not a particularly coherent speech.

He talks about discriminatory laws and banning of protest. He also talks about prioritising LGBTQ+ issues in foreign relations. He also says that we must not strengthen asylum laws in the event this results in refoulment of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers.

Lad, if you’re going to talk about Ireland, talk about Ireland. If you’re going to talk about Hungary, talk about Hungary. If you are going to talk about Saudi Arabia, talk about Saudi Arabia. Trying all at once is just a word salad. I know this is in the context of an EU forum, and there is a point buried really deep in there, but it comes off mostly as posturing, at least how it’s reported here. Matters aren’t helped by the Examiner then framing it through the Irish Labour Party decrying how unsafe Ireland is becoming.

    3. Former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of course the man who could have banned conversion therapy in Ireland but didn’t; could have reformed trans healthcare in Ireland but didn’t (we actually have worse trans healthcare than they do in Hungary!), could have reformed surrogacy and assisted fertility laws but didn’t, and is here to tell Europe how great Ireland is in terms of LGBT rights.

I am endlessly frustrated that this man purports that Ireland is a leader on LGBT rights when he has massive blinkers on when it comes to the actual lived experience of LGBT people – the T in that equation in particular.

Fine Gael accomplished the referendum, and then fuck all. It’s been coasting on that one accomplishment for ten years now.

Looking at the various annual parades, youth clubs and larger networks as well as the constant painting of the flag colours on public streets and display of the pride flag at all local and national government buildings and OPW sites, the seemingly endless supportive ads on radio, tv and the internet.

You could still label lgbtq supportive ideas as free speech but most of it seems to be state sponsored?

Not sure its right to call something free when taxpayers foot the bill.

Maybe even thinking this makes me hateful. Idk?

There’s never been a better time and there are few better places to be LGBTQ than Ireland in 2025.

FYI, a chairde, if you quote Harris’ “mentally st@bbed” comment, Reddit auto mod might think you’re making a threat.

      Christ on a cross.
