Many surveys suggest that Islam is practiced by 94-99% of the population. It turns out that a “liberal” form of the religion has emerged in Turkey – people still believe in Allah, but don’t fulfill the religious worship. A good portion of the Turks also drink. Yet they call themselves Muslims. Also remarkable to note that there are millions of women (~60%) without hijab who are believers.

I’d love to see Czechs.
Of 100 people, 89 never prayed, promise never will. 8 people says they’re christians (never prayed anyway). The rest tries to hide the fact they’ve tried so people won’t mock them.

I think they are deists that they are not aware that they are deists.

“Occasionally do so” people are not doing it because they’re Muslims, they only do it because they’re too afraid or ignorant to actually stop believing in god and they only pray in very special occasions like funerals and holidays as tradition.
Only the 40-45% of Turkey is really Muslim. And that number is decreasing.

I don’t think %44 regular prayer statistics is true that should be around %20 or less

Also keep in mind prayer in Islam is not the easy quick thing in Christianity were you can say a few nice things in your native language and call that prayer. In Islam you need to perform the ritual washing then remember the correct prayer order for the time of day, and recite prayer in Arabic off memory, 5 times a day. It’s an intensive life consuming thing vs a quick “hi god please let me pass my exams next week and keep grandma well in hospital and please also can I make a lot of money thanks.”
This is another reason why younger Turks aren’t praying. They don’t know how and/or they don’t have the time.

I know a few Turks here in Germany and through conversations I also know something about their families in Turkey. I have the feeling that the people who say that they only pray occasionally, secretly don’t pray at all and don’t dare to admit it directly, because of reasons lol

%90 of the %44 is lying

Regular: Friday to Friday
Occasionally: holiday to holiday(twice a year)
In reality, %7-8 prays 5 times a day, based on energy consumption data.

Turks were never religious to begin with, we didn’t care about religion and never tried to promote it. Those religious folks in Turkey are Kurds , Arabs, Greek/Armenian/ Georgian/Serbian converts and other minorities.

So basically around 24% are atheists/secular. Occasionally praying means that they’re still Muslims, it may be that they follow other Islamic rules like not eating pork.
