Yep, it’s been that way for a long time! Now that trump is causing concern it’s about time we looked at other options instead of having all of our eggs in one basket especially as one as unstable as America right now

And our options are? We are formally a junior partner on the world stage, we lack the political confidence to represent ourselves, so we are always going to be dependent on the strength and wishes of someone, be it the EU or the US. Neither of them really care about us so what can we do about space security?
The US have only insulted and sabotaged us a little bit and they showed us mercy with the Tariffs. We were the able to plead for a better deal and we got it. Equally the EU have their own agenda to pick with us, and a member state had people take such matters as far as to threaten to blockade some of our ports.
If I had to pick a poison I would pick the US due to the advanced state of their capabilities.
If we were willing to stand as a more independent player rather than the subservient state we are, then we could have come to a collaborative agreement with some if the more lone standing states such as Japan, Australia, Canada, New Zealand. Unfortunately I don’t believe we have the domestic political capabilities to form such a plan, and we don’t have the international standing or respect to get it.
Due to our population demographic, especially at the political level there is an opportunity to hitch ourselves to India as subservient partner and perhaps we can assist them in their space security by offering what we know for their coverage and assistance.

Which other “Western European states” developed complete nuclear weapons capabilities?
