More short sighted-ness, it feels like we’re allergic to big infrastructure projects. Why don’t we have the foresight for long term planning projects. If the author is right this would save money if done correctly

Absolutely. The metro upgrade to Sandyford is extremely cheap in infrastructure terms. It was specifically planned to be upgraded later too.

I never knew why they had completely different guage lines between the red and green line. I always assumed some level of Gombeenery was at play, but there ya go, green line was always designed to be converted to a Metro at some stage or another.

Unless the same Minister can turn the first sod and cut the ribbon, forget about it.

Should it happen? Yes.
Should the current plan be changed and brought back to square 1 to allow it to happen at the same time? No.
The state tried multiple avenues to appease locals when it came to getting the green line upgrade over the line. Eventually they made the prudent decision to park it and move on with the rest of the plan. It was the correct decision to keep the project moving along.

I sincerely believe Dublin will never have a metro

Having the line closed for up to 4 years to facilitate the upgrade is pretty wild. What are all those commuters gonna do in the meantime? Drive? Bus? Those options are already a disaster.

Far too much like common sense. It’ll never happen under this government

Michael McDowell and friends already stopped this. They didn’t want Ranelagh disrupted by building works ( or more riff raff coming down from the Northside).

At this stage, there’s a case to be made for building a Metrolink tunnel under the green line, with minimal stops (Sandyford, Dundrum/Ballaly, Ranelagh etc), as an express metro to the city centre to take the pressure off the green line.

Massive waste of money? Absolutely
