      >If you try to book a park-up spot on a tourist trail for your campervan this June bank holiday weekend, you will probably be told none are available

That’s probably because that’s next weekend.

That sounds like you left your planning too late.

Ireland’s hostility to campervans is extreme.

As if there was some very local issue behind it.

The marina in Cork used to be a big place for them till they got banned

By infrastructure do they mean free services as opposed to the private sites that exist at the moment (usually for about €20-€30 per night) because there are loads of campsites around the country.

Is this sponsored by the hotel federation? Ireland has massive untapped potential for tourism off the back of European visitors in campers and motorhomes.

I love my campervan. Must take it out for a jaunt next weekend.

This is another example of the gradual erosion of public space and amenities by private individuals. What was free and open to all is gradually stolen by squatters. You start by tolerating a small number, but it always grows. So these things should really be banned from public carparks. Make overnight parking illegal. That will force these into proper commercial camping sites, with hookups and disposal facilities. It doesn’t matter if they’re run by individuals or councils.
