So they’ve added a sidewalk? I mean its nice, but is it really that big of a change?

There is no difference in the greenness?! The number of trees and bushes is the same. They only changed the lanes.

Athens are quite walkable if you don’t plan to use a pedestrian crossings. Then you are target number one

Breaking News! Scientist have now found out that trees grow taller over time!

    5. If that’s the argument you’re trying to make, you should provide a better selection of photos to compare.

For the confused people as i do not live in Athens and didnt understand it when they were talking about it the last decade, but passed by it last 2 years a couple of times when i was down there, while it was “finishing” cause we are Greeks and a 2 month leftover job takes a few years, its a much longer part of it and he is basically trying to show you that:

They removed 2-3 meters of road from the left and added benches/greenery/shrubs to create a better sidewalk cause its downtown/rich area and there wasn’t enough room for them to window shop, after the turn he is showing the change is bigger, now all you see is the trees are taller 😀

Basically they have averagely 200% more shrubs.

As usual its a joke cause its a few months job and took years and money were burnt as usual and because of how heavy traffic is and the massive lack of parking, Greeks do not like having “Green” improvements when there is no alternative.

We are facing same issues up in the North, where they want to create memorial parks and stuff out of parking/unofficial parking areas which will be catastrophic to traffic and the shops there.

    7. Not taken at the same time of the day, so different exposure to the sunlight. Easy to spot with the shadows.

Also the contrast might have been edited.

Mayor Bakoyannis pretty much destroyed the city. Spent millions of euros on pharaonic projects that went nowhere, palm trees that provided no shade, plant boxes that died the first day of summer. Gets voted out after one term and then his uncle (the prime minister) immediately slashes Athens’ budget to punish the new mayor and the Athenians that voted for him

The trees grew a bit and they made the road one-way only.

How exactly did this improve walkability?

    12. Is it just me or, does the most recent look bad at the top ?
I would do first old pic and below newer pic

This guy is a pro government propaganda poster. All his posts try to exonerate the current government and put the blame to all other political parties.

Yes, Greece has done some good things with the current government.

BUT also the current government is the most corrupt (see the cartels of all big corporations and the prices etc etc),

Unjust (see the cover up at train accident at tempi with no justice),

With less freedom of speech ( Greece is the last in the EU with the freedom of speech and all the media do not allow any voice against the government. To make things worse the prime Minister had ordered the secret services to spy all his political opponents)

And unpopular (we had the biggest protest of all times in all the cities of Greece and internationally as well. Another excuse that they like to say is that the current government took 41% in the elections. They forget to mention though that only 40% of Greece went to vote and the government deliberately puts the elections in high time season so all the youth is either on vacations or working for the summer season. Therefore, so only 1.6 million approximately voted for that government out of the 10 million)

    14. It did change for the better. Isn’t that a bike lane on the left hand side? Because there is bound to be a pavement between the green strip and the buildings.

I also like the road diet, although it looks like it could use another.

And obviously the trees have grown.

It’s so disheartening to think that even when we would plant trees for shade and cooling the effect is decades away…
