We unfortunately need to say good-bye to another volunteer. Tom Phillips is from the UK and bravely volunteered to defend Ukraine. Protect a Volunteer matched him with a group of donors back in 2023. He was a well-respected and much loved team leader in the International Legion (GUR division).

Tom recently stepped away from Ukraine’s military in order to take a break. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with mental health and he took his own life. He will be deeply missed by friends, family, and colleagues.

Tom was a true silent professional and he maintained no social media presence. His team also kept a low profile. His family is in need of some assistance now. Because Tom was not a member of the military at the time of his death, the costs for repatriating him to the UK and holding a funeral fall to his family. His family also won’t receive any financial compensation from Ukraine.

His family has posted a fundraiser to help with the costs of his repatriation and funeral. Friends of Tom verified to me that yes this is a real fundraiser for him.
