Reminder; not just Brits, but other third-party nationals too. But LBC has to provoke outrage amongst the minority of people who still think Brexit was a good idea.

Good. This will target the pro-brexiteers who post their Reform votes in from their spanish holiday homes.

Fair enough, a policy I would also like to see enacted here.

Lovely stuff. I can’t undo brexit but I can enjoy leave voter tears

It’s good to protect the european housing market in general. I want Spanish people to buy houses all over Europe and Europeans to be able to have apartments and houses in Spain. But keep the Americans and Chinese who just look for cheap living costs out.

There needs to be rules: 90% of houses must be for locals only; only 10% can be used for tourism. Something like that europe-wide.

I hope this solves the housing issues that I keep reading about in Spain, but something tells me it won’t..

    8. that’s good news for young spaniards, if this can bring down some housing prices.

i think this is a good decision. i think generally it should be the same in most countries.

if someone is rich enough to buy a house abroad, they can pony up the extra capital. make the majority of housing stock only sellable to “natives” of whatever country it is unless they are migrating/ working long term in the other country then just give them native prices.

This isn’t just brits, this is just a second homes/empty homes tax.

Lots of our councils do similar things.

Spaniard here, sorry for the brits that just wanted a home here, but right now we have cities where most of the city is at hands of foreing investors and people, to the point native people have to go live to the rural areas to be able to aford rent.

A big problem are brits and “brits* wich are a front for russians.

Tho i dont agree with just making it more expensive as narcs, russian mafia and rich people can still buy like that, i would limit the number to one per family and only if they stay more than 6 months in the country

Meanwhile, Spain has an estimated 3 million unsold holiday homes that sit empty, and thousands of rural “ghost towns” where locals have moved elsewhere in the EU for better pay or to larger more prosperous Spanish cities.
