I live in Kharkiv. I speak Russian at home and with all of my friends.
To say we view Russia “negatively” would be an understatement.

Dont most Ukrainians speak Russian, as a secondary or their primary language? Language doesnt mean much. That would mean US would belong to UK because they speak English. And Portugal owns Brazil because they speak Portugese. And Spain would own halve of South America….
