If Ukraine do so, they are walking dead men
On purely humanitarian grounds if they are handed back over to the Russians Putin will hand them right back to North Korea where they will in all likelihood by violently executed.
They’ll probably be shot if they’re handed back, and Ukraine will be giving them a better quality of life than they had back home.
At the end of the war, Ukraine should offer them an exit plan: state a fiction that they tried to escape, killed their guards, were cornered by police, and committed suicide. Have them write suicide notes, noting their love for dear leader and shame that their attempts to die in combat for the honor of the One True Korea failed. Have them stage death photographs. Send cremated remains to NK.
Then they should be given new identities and a chance to live in Ukraine or in a neutral country, far from NK agents.
This is the only way I think they could save their families in NK from imprisonment.
Why would they be? Also I’m genuinely curious. Has any foreigner fighting for Russia been exchanged for one of our guys?
