Would there be the capacity, given you would have to include about half of all cars parked near schools at their finishing time?

Bad idea. Being able to challenge a seizure in court before destruction is a necessary part of the police having powers to seize and destroy vehicles at all.

I assume they have a full trial first? I also don’t understand why it would be crushed and not just sold

I’d love to know what will happen with this when someone is “in the wrong place at the wrong time”, and hence acquitted, but now they have no car.
Will the police compensate people in these cases?

Why crushed?
Why not sold at a police auction (especially given Britain’s apparent obsession with for-profit policing)?
Just stinks of police state intimidation IMO. Will do more damage than good.

Does this include legacy cars that park in leccy bays?

They have to catch them first, and they do a poor job of that from what I hear most nights around here.
Crushing cars is stupid too. Seize ownership and sell them – gives more money for policing.

Is there ever going to be a government that doesn’t just resort to authoritarian powers. Spying into bank accounts, crushing vehicles without the ability to appeal, bigger state, more laws and powers

Middle lane hogging is very antisocial, crush them all I say.

hopefully they remove the batteries before crushing them

This is quite annoying as the government are being slow to release legislation on this.
I met a young man with one on the train, said he needed something to get to his apprenticeship, as wasn’t paid much.
I hope they get decent legislation out to help the kid who wants to get to work, and punish the antisocial users accordingly. The problem is they both may be tarred with the same brush.
