Israel changing the definition of antisemitism = OK.
Ireland wanting to expand the definition of genocide = antisemitism!
Fair enough, follow that road if you like, but the lack of concrete actions by FFG on the Gaza genocide and the ethnic cleansing in the West Bank is appalling. Something like this is perfect for Martin because it would take years, require broad international support, and just involves talking. Since falling in with FG, he’s turned in to a complete do-nothing Taoiseach.
But what exactly is the point of changing the definition? What is wrong with definition? As far I know, it is not nation specific and is not just Jewish either?
If they put as much effort into our own country as they did the issues in Palestine then we might actually start making some progress.

Sanctions when ?
Oh no to much money involved that can’t be lost.
I just don’t understand this. Why are we so invested in having this described as a genocide? What does that do for anyone? Instead of trying to expand definitions of existing crimes to include what’s happening in Gaza, why not focus on what we know for sure that this is. They’re committing war crimes. Even former Israeli prime ministers are saying that, I genuinely just don’t understand why we’re so wedded here to having it included under the “genocide” bracket – as if it makes a blind bit of difference to what’s happening to people living there. Assuming Ireland, by some miracle, gets the definition of genocide expanded so that we can now include what’s happening in Gaza under that bracket, what changes?
It’s always felt so deeply unserious to me. People think slapping a “genocide” label on this is activism, and striking a blow against Israel. It isn’t.
