It seems to me that Putin does not want the USSR, but the Russian Empire with an autocracy.

This is stupid
You have to be utterly politically illiterate to think this is remotely close to the truth

I would like to cite a former Russian government worker who lives now in exile.
“There is no USSR without Ukraine. Without Ukraine it is Russia hanging around with Central Asian dictators”.

The absolute bonkers part of this is that Putin easily could have built the Asian EU, in a respectful and progressive way, but unfortunately for him, he’s a total fucken asshole sucker.
Instead of competing with china over that, they bullied their neighborhood friends and now they call china daddy.

You know, I, as a Russian, know quite a schizo cults here. And one of them is “Alive Citizens/Soviet Citizens”.
Basically, they are crazy people. They don’t pay taxes, refuse to obey the law, live in their own villages and believe that USSR is still a thing – and, more important, with the same argument – “it wasn’t signed properly”. They beleve that Russian Federation is “just a company with HQ in London”. Before they were like freaks, no one cared, but now… There mignt be a connection.
From the official prespective, it was totally okay the moment Russia left the USSR. By it’s constitution (ch. 8, Section 72 “Each Union republic retains the right to freely secede from USSR.” So it was totally alright.
But now, dictator want to prove his “right to war” as a “restoration of stolen land”. We all know what this leads to, and World War 2 is an example. War is a crime, and people who start it are criminals.
