Victim can always pursue him in Civil court where this verdict will not help the farmer.

The 8k is a substantial hit for the farmer, the victim gets compenstated, costs will probably go against the farmer as well. He doesnt go to jail which saves us money.

Spent a few days in court with work and its obvious that certain demographics get treated differently but if you live a generally law abiding life and are productive mmeber of society then you get these options to pay off your debt.

Also being from rural Ireland the stain of this conviction will mark him and his family for life which is something you cant put a value on.

That payment needs at least one more zero before the decimal point.

      >The court heard that Mr Gibson’s right eye socket was displaced by 5 millimetres, that he was off work for three weeks, had headaches for six weeks after the incident and that he still has a ”constant drooping” in his eye. He said he was thankful to the doctors at Sligo Hospital who managed to save the sight in his right eye.

€8k to get off with doing this to someone after lying to the Gardaí & claiming that he couldn’t have punched the victim with his fist because he had cut his hand a short time before? Then after eventually pleading guilty, he uses the *I coach underage sports teams etc.* character silliness in defense 🙄

      > no CCTV in the bar and nobody present was willing to make a statement.

      Of course.

They should make the farmer become his personal butler for a year.

What would the victim be able to expect if he he takes a civil case? At least half his farm I hope!

The real question is how much did he have to pay the judge?
