Huh. I assumed that most of countries that had to survive through communism would also have a promotion of this shade of totalitarism banned.

Freedom of speech isn’t valued much in Czechia, it seems. Ironic considering how this is being justified, I’d imagine.

I wouldn’t have a problem with banning the promotion of the authoritarian/totalitarian variants of Communism (Stalinism, Maoism, etc.), but a blanket bank on all variants (which this title seems to imply) would also mean banning promoting the libertarian variants, which I don’t see as deserving banning.

I don’t personally support them, but imo the democratic, anti-authoritarian strains are acceptable, precisely because they *don’t* seek to undo democracy and install dictatorships. It’s the *anti-democratic, anti-liberty authoritarian/totalitarian* aspects that are the (ban-worthy) issues, just like it is with authoritarian/totalitarian variants of Nationalism, Capitalism, Green politics, or whatever.

Hmm. I guess it would depend on the legal definitions and wording here.

Since if it could mean jailing a teacher for bringing up Marx in a political science class, then…. ehm… yeah no.

If it means “no you cant organize around dismantling democracy, to replace it with a one party police state… also, idonno, red banners or whatever…” Then I’m less concerned.

I would have prefered this as “anti totalitarian” rather than “anti communist”, since it should be about defending democracy, rather than broad brush fuck over anything vaguely labled as “communist”, by people who couldnt define it if their lives depended on it.

    4. Hey call me a horrible stalinist 50000000 gazillion dead commie, but I think that the ”economic exploitation by capitalism is bad” ideology and the ”murder everyone who is a diffirent race” ideology aren’t really equivalent

Good. The amount of people praising communism is crazy

Good. Western Europe still embrace communism and we can see the result from it. They’re falling behind while Eastern Europe is embracing capitalism and getting richer and more free.

it’s a bit misleading title. the new law has yet to be passed, they just approve this might be a part, also it is not just about this ban, they approved much more changes

As a liberal (and thereby and anti-communist), I think this is a a disgrace. Freedom of speech should be a fundamental and inseparable part of liberal democracy, which includes the right to advocate for alternatives, even if they are authoritarian. Fuck of with that (misinterpretation of the) paradox of tolerance bullshit. If you don’t tolerate intolerant speech, you are intolerant. It’s actual actions to overthrow liberal democracy is what should not be tolerated, but even that very cautiously (so it cannot be abused)

Both fascism and communism are criminal doctrines that have caused unspeakable harm and both should be banned.

      At last.

It doesn’t make sense that this openly totalitarian violent ideology that shamelessly advocates for human rights violation and has already killed tens of millions of innocents was not already banned everywhere.

    11. There are forms of communism that isn’t like the totalitarian Marxist-Leninist form that plagued eastern Europe. I disagree with those as well, but we should step very carefully when banning ideologies

Racial Genocide or Workers Owning the Factories. Same thing.

After all the shit that happened during the Cold War, you’d think we would’ve outlawed communism and fascist parties long ago

To all people saying “but freedom of speech!!”. To me, you are now sounding exactly like some of the far right people that just want an excuse to do and say awfull stuff. Im also left leaning, but to my knowledge, every “communist” state right now is supressing freedom of speech and also penalizes dissent. I think most of us have not witnessed a communist- or fascist authoritarian regime and that it should probably stay that way.

Im not saying that freedom of speech is not important because it is incredibly important. But as soon as political extremes (aka communism and fascism) are mentioned that threaten that freedom of speech and groups or individuals within society, actions must be taken.
