Isn’t Iceland one of the few countries without an army? And also isn’t it strategic important as a base for surveiling the north sea?

I have never understood why Iceland dont have an army. A couple of coast guard ships, and thats that.
Why not a battallion of soldiers, train them in Norway. I am surere that it wouldnt be a problem with finding enough voluntary soldiers among Icelanders.
I can understand that Iceland is to small to have an airforce, but what about air defence batteries?

You need an army and weapons to do that. Europe has neutered themselves militarily
Iceland is critically important to track submarines entering the Atlantic. It should definitely be transformed into something like Guam or Diego Garcia, an unsinkable aircraft carrier with a strong military presence
