Bam building contractors would love to get their hands on that public contract.

Space centre. Sure bro. Right after we buy a rader. FFS

In theory it would be a good idea, create a few thousand jobs on the west coast, aswell as a knock on effect on in STEM education and tourism.

But it’ll take 50 years to even get started and be the most expensive space center ever built

    4. Alastor001 on

Ye, we already have an unfinished hospital for the same amount of money… Great idea

    5. AffectionateDuty6062 on

we should build a road from cork to limerick first

    6. sludgepaddle on

Maybe a few gaffs first. Or perhaps housing will be cheaper on the moon.

    7. Active-Strawberry-37 on

Makes sense, we’ve plenty of space cadets here.

      €700 billion.

      BAM have entered the chat.

Oh wait that’s the global total worth of space business not the cost of building the space port.

      BAM have left the chat.

Maybe if we started building houses in space that would solve the housing crisis.

Well probably not. Some NIMBY in Dublin 4 would object that the extra white dot ruined their enjoyment of the night sky.

We should build some houses and transport infrastructure. Then we can build the spaceport maybe.

Good idea, build a space centre so we can send our people to live on the moon because building in Ireland isn’t viable.

Imagine trying to get planning through for that. We’ll have colonised Mars before it happens.

I’m assuming he is referring to some launch center facility?

If that’s the case Ireland is a poor choice to build it, all launch centers need empty or barron space to its east, obviously not the case in Ireland.

This is why the US launch center is built in Florida and the ESA launches are in French guinea, also not mentioning the need to be close to the equator.

Ah, cmon now lads, it’d be great to see the tricolour on the surface of some place or other.

      A) Where? We’re hardly singapore but there are people all over this island.

      B) Aren’t we geographically badly positioned for this? I thought that the reason the Americans use Florida and we (Europe) use French Guyana is because the earths spin means you have to fire rockets eastward, which for us means over the entirity of UK airspace as well as significant chunks of Europe.

They should really get around to responding to my 75th FUCKING request for a country wide monorail. That’s what they should do.

    17. Well, to be fair, if humans are ever going to populate space, it was always likely there’d be a few irish mickeys involved.

    18. mrbuddymcbuddyface on

Such obvious BS. Ireland is too far North in latitude to be viable for a space centre.

    19. Dazzling_Detective79 on

Yep sure get BAM on the contract now and it could be done by 2075

    20. chuckleberryfinnable on

We should probably finish the children’s hospital first…

    21. justbecauseyoumademe on

It would be a great idea if we have a ESA space centre here managed and co funded by the ESA and EU.

      Massive boon to ireland.

But ireland on its own building and maintaining it..? Fuck no..
