Last year it was so crowded I decided never to go again. I went in 2019 and it was nowhere near as bad. I don’t know if they let more people in, or just poorly plan the acts and the stages they’ll be on, but it wasn’t pleasant and I didn’t enjoy it.

For what it’s worth I didn’t really see any particular point where a crush could take place, but there were times where the crowd was so dense and blocking entries/exists that it would make it basically impossible to get medical attention to someone.

Yea have sometimes wondered that there. 2 incidents I’ve noticed are the mad crowds that filter down to the south east corner once the pyramid closes, and a sign that fell down making a big bang which a few people reacted to.

The only time I’ve seen a dangerous crowd at Glastonbury was a ‘secret gig’ from Madness in a little tent in the naughty corner. I believe it’s part of what lead to Eavis and the ‘Lost Vagueness’ management falling out. It was the last year before the revamp to Shangri-la.

They generally do a really good job of reacting to crowds.

Yeah, I have been 4 times, 2017,2019,2022,2023. It felt each year it got more and more crowded, more pushing, more sense of being overwhelmed.
West Holts used to feel like you’d have plenty of space around you, in 2023 I felt stressed when I was gonna go grab some drinks or go to the goan fish curry van…

Meh. Nothing compared to 2000 when they estimated 250000 broke in. You literally couldn’t move that year.

I remember leaving the area when Amy Winehouse had finished (that’s how long ago it was) and as we were leaving people were coming in and everyone was getting more and more pressed into this kind of perimeter fence.

Everyone was kind of looking at each other as if to say, ‘this is getting dodgy’, but within seconds we were out of the field and it was over.

I still remember thinking how dangerous it felt

The crowd movement management was an accident waiting to happen when I last went, and that was 20 YEARS ago…

Sounds horrific. How many times have warnings been made by people over safety at places only for nothing to be done until it’s too late?
It always seems to take deaths to happen and then we get an inquiry and lessons learned so it never happens again.
Well the Glastonbury organisers have the chance to make changes now and make sure it never happens in the first place.
