Meanwhile, in the frozen North, any kind of new rail is unobtainable.

Respectfully, until the north of England receives at least a tenth of London’s investment in rail, bus, and tram infrastructure, change is needed. I propose a law: for every pound spent in London, two should be invested outside it. London boasts extensive, well-funded transport; the North has more people but far less infrastructure, hindering economic growth and perpetuating the damage caused by deindustrialization and neoliberal policies—thanks, Iron Lady, for that rust.

Not forever, but we need trams in Leeds, efficient links between Manchester and Leeds, and upgrades to Leeds Central Station as an integrated transport hub. HS2 should extend nationwide. Planning laws must be reformed to facilitate infrastructure development. We also need to end combined sewerage and drainage issues—CFOS—and build functional infrastructure. I understand it’s hard for Londoners to grasp the North’s needs, but we matter. I don’t want to resort to insults, but my frustration runs deep.

Would love a metro system in Manchester. It’s only ever gonna get more expensive to build

    4. Meanwhile basically all of Oxfordshire is a rail desert. I’m almost an hours drive from my nearest station.

    5. I’m willing to bet if the regions and cities outside London were allowed to raise taxes, they could pay for their own regional transport projects. If the land surrounding stations had high density housing, that could alleviate some of the cost.

Would the business and people of Leeds be willing to pay more tax if they were allowed to build a tram system?

The north south cross rail would do wonders for south London which is lacking in tube lines and stations besides national rail.

Sorry I didn’t get the answer were you provided a link or report for what your MP has done ?

Not much quotes or actual evidence in the comments you’ve written?

Dublin big city, historically main cultural and economic hub or Ireland and so gets majority of development. As such government puts most money into this to support largest % of population and companies developing there. Very similar to what happened in London. Because London also capital city. Capital city mean many people, many jobs, many houses and business. Govt develops that to support the wider company. Do you follow or should i simplify ?
