Today is going to be a good day for stating the obvious

    2. Hat’s only true from a Western perspective that values Russian lifes and eastern european independence, no?

Putin considers russian minorities dying in Ukrainian dirt and Ukraine burning a decent trade for a small part of Ukrainian land, I bet. At least better than just doing nothing and letting Ukrainians walk their own path.

The man is a monster and thinks like one. His belief system is not matching ours. We should never believe we can get him to subsribe to our rationality. Every promise in that direction is a lie.

He didn’t make a strategic mistake. He gambled the fate of his country by calculating that was his best option for survival.

He rose to power with a promise of restoring the greatness of Russia and he calculated that without a major expansion into former territory his leadership was vulnerable to internal challengers because he wasn’t delivering enough former “greatness”.

This invasion of Ukraine might have been a strategic mistake if doing nothing was an option. For him doing nothing was more dangerous. So he gambled.

He will get a good chunk of Ukraine and he will have proved that NATO is powerless to stop him so long as he doesn’t touch a NATO country. So did he really make a mistake? (From our perspective yes, but not from his).

He’ll be free to do that again in 5 years to get the remainder of Ukraine along with other countries (not NATO countries). Let’s stop being candid and naive pls.
