Do we have a confirmed number of planes destroyed by a neutral source? I have read they are 40, then 20, now 13…
Militarily this is definitely a huge success for Ukraine, and an astonishing achievement in terms of planning and execution. It’s clearly an embarrassment for Russia, and they are now in a weaker position.
Looking at Russia’s reactions to previous Ukrainian actions, like the bombing of the Kerch Bridge and the Kursk incursion, it’s probably safe to assume that Russia will escalate and become even less interested in peace negotiations. My guess is that today’s talks will go even worse than those on May 16.
We don’t know the actual number yet. We have conclusive proof of 3 destroyed TU95 and 1 AN 12. There are also footage of at least 2 damaged TU 95s.
Even if those are the final numbers, it is still a success, though the amount of smoke would indicate a larger number were at least damaged.
That said, Russia is not assessing the war rationally. They are looking at it in “either submit to our demands or we will continue” until the are literally unable to do so.
Anything that reduces their nuclear readiness is a success.
