Maybe a more exact quote (Medinsky, again): “Stop putting on a show for bleeding-heart childless European old ladies”

There are an untold number of people who have either Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian roots and whose families – maybe grandparents or great-grandparents – were deported. Some of these families were of those men who were considered a threat to the great nation of Russia – teachers, formerly military (eg those who participated in the war of independence in Estonia), or just plain old farmers who had had a slightly more bigger of a hand of land than what ussr deemed normal. 

Plenty of those who were deported died. They left behind kids who were put to orphanages. Those who could remember their language and had relatives writing to them, sometimes returned to when Stalin died and amnesties were given out. Some probably never did because if you were sent there in 1941 and could return starting from 1953, plenty had found jobs, maybe even married because even in hell, you need to live and get by day by day. 

So the soviets deported those families, often separating the men from the women and children, sending men to prison camps or work so gruelling they’d die and women and kids to work in forests or places of basically no normal inhabitance yet (places that still needed to be made habitable) and they’d only give food for the people who worked, so women and kids were often hungry the first year (because the kids didn’t work hence they didn’t get their portion of food). Some women stole things so that they would get arrested and kids sent to orphanages because it was a choice between starving/working to death for them vs at least kids being given shelter and food in orphanages, no matter how bad it was. 

Sorry for anybody who gets insulted,  but what’s happening to those kids is no different today. The people doing this today, no matter their nationality, are doing the same thing. They rob the young so there is no future – just like the Soviets hoped to do. 

I don’t have words enough to express my anger and sorrow and what words I do have would get me permabanned from the whole forum. 

For anybody wondering why the countries bordering Russia just “cannot” get along – that’s why. This kind of s**t is why we can’t get along – because that’s what’s the great neighbour is doing instead of “getting along” or threatening to do if we don’t “want to get along”. Once they become “normal”, maybe then in a 100 years we may get along for real. Until then, I wish we had a 30 mile moat between Russia and the rest of Europe.
