This reminds me of people increasingly recording medical professionals.

If what is said is right, proper and can be defended in court, then why worry?

Why not? Perfectly legal on the UK and if someone literally has the power to remove your children from you, it’s best that every detail is laid bare.

Edit: to clarify, the ability to recommend and start proceedings to have children removed.

So? I bet they record your phone calls if you ring them

      Social worker here.

There’s parts of relationship building where I’d prefer not to be recorded, that’s because it’s tougher to be off the cuff and authentic if you know you’re being recorded.

I could still do the relevant work, but it would be a lot more difficult and I don’t think I could encourage someone to be vulnerable and honest if they’re recording.

I’ve had people admit to relapsing, suicidal ideation and resenting their loved ones. I couldn’t open up myself to that kind of vulnerability if I knew I was recording a session with someone.

People want to record is because they feel unsafe, and I understand why. So we need to understand the root cause of where that comes from. If we can’t develop trust then it’s a lot harder to achieve positive outcomes

I understand why parents do it but if I was a social worker I’d be concerned at the possibility of it being posted on social media so bad parents can do their usual line of claiming the social take kids for no reason and are discriminating against them due to getting paid bonuses for taking kids or however it goes these days

Can you trust a social worker? Sadly you can’t. Not only that but in a court when it is your word against theirs they will always be believed 100% over you.

I could give examples but I have had two occasions they flat out lied and a few time they have said things they really should not have said.

    7. Having witnessed social services myself I’m of the firm belief that all social services meetings should be recorded.

The incredibly wild variety of standards of social worker is just insane. I’ve had an ace one that was trying to help, and I’ve had three that couldn’t speak English, lied and forged documentation in their favour and broke the law. Which we caught and verified as a result of secretly recording the meetings.

They told us it was illegal (again lying to protect themselves) but I had sort legal advice prior and you’re fully allowed to record anything in the UK without consent – think how many times you’re recorded on CCTV a day without your consent. It’s distribution where you need consent, and court isn’t distribution.

Remember this organisation has the powers to mislead and take children away through various documentation without court approval if the right documents are signed by the parents, something they tried to mislead us on initially called a section 20. This can also be revoked voluntarily but they withheld information like that.

There’s alot of scummy individuals who work as social workers & hide behind their status. They’re allowed too record you & having more evidence shouldn’t be a bad thing.

This is where “if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear” is a valid argument. They’re agents of the state, if they can’t cope with scrutiny then they’re in the wrong job.

      Good.

      Why shouldn’t they?

If everything the SW reports can be shown to be correct or at least could be inferred from conversations the SW has nothing to worry about.
