It is sad, but realistically, what else can he do? It is better to run for an early election and lose than struggle with a president who will veto everything for two more years and lose after that…

If they want to be obstructionist shits, take down the government now and govern with PiS for the benefit of your beloved farmers.
If they want to stay in government, they need to give guarantees they will stop blocking legislation which might upset conservatives.
Normally, this is a damage mitigation move. When a government sees vote tendencies are moving against them, they might call an early election, to not lose as many votes as they would if they did them later, hoping to just have enough votes to still win.

This is pre-emptive while he is likely to have support. Tusk and Kaczyński are both efficient political animals regardless of what you think of them. They make everyone else in the country look like amateurs. He will probably win the vote from his coalition and have a mandate to govern for another two years.
