I found this neat little website which shows the live feed of the National Grid – it’s weirdly addictive to watch how the UK is currently generating electricity. Presumably it’s a windy day.
Is it an actual reason to be proud? You should always have a reliable backup to avoid the recent Iberian blackout

Really nice to see, but sadly a bigger part of the green house gas emissions is the heating which is rarely represented in those energy statistics. It is much worse for the most part.

And electricity is now cheap, right? Right?

And it’s more expensive than ever, our bills as a 2 bed for a couple are £150 water electricity + gas.

It’s been higher than that fairly often over the last few weeks. There have been a couple of occasions where renewables were actually providing more than 100% of domestic demand (although some fossil fuel stations did keep running to support exports and probably also for grid stability).

Yet we get charged electricity prices based on the price of gas 🤔🤔🤔
Which the manipulate at the monitoring time🤔

This is the kind of good news I like to see. And yet the reform luddites want to copy Trump’s drill baby drill bs in the North Sea… cannot make it up.

So wind is 63% that’s good, now consult the chart next week when there is less wind and let’s see what the numbers are then lol

The problem with wind isn’t the amount of production, the problem is consistency within the short term. One day production may be great, another there may be none at all.

For context, it’s very windy 💨

Important to note this is for Britain not the UK, the island of Ireland has its own grid.
Renewables are just a trend. I still think nuclear is the way to go.

The problem is when I was in the UK and the wind the year around was very weak so they put up the prices for electricity like 3x and in general it’s not that cheap so I don’t really like the randomness because of that much being dependent on wind, it shows that diversity is almost the best choice and going full on renewables could not be the best solution as nature is unpredictable.

Edit: The island is at 69% renewables
