    1. I truly hope so, but this race is just beginning, it isn’t over until the election results are in.

    2. Betonkauwer on

”Collapsed” is when you’re down 20% over the biggest result youve ever had.

    3. If I was being positive, I’d say it shows what happens when the far right gain power. But actually every ruling party is getting slated right now, right or left. We have pretty major problems at the moment with our economies and societies, and no one in power really has come up with any good solutions.

It turns out there are no simple solutions to complex problems. Who would have guessed? But at least Dutch are on average smart enough to change their mind instead of doubling down on that bullshit.

      Aaaaah, dude, this graph.

Let’s hope that the south (and East Germany…) can soon follow northern Europe in a trend away from the right

    7. They haven’t collapsed far enough for my liking, hate those idiots.

    8. Far right governments don’t know how to govern outside of oppression I don’t understand why anyone expects them to do anything OTHER then push their agenda on people and provide nothing to show for it

    9. ltragach on

      Oh no.
Populist lies to get into office. Populist looses public opinion because his lies now affect his voters.

      The ouroboros cycle of politics.

    10. Wonderful-Lack3846 on

Still, there is a lot of support. It shows how stupid society is.

And more support for the VVD is not good either, because they are comparable to the PVV.

    11. SparkyFrog on

Getting into the goverment is deadly for these far-right populist parties, same thing has happened in Finland too.

    12. EntrepreneurAmazing4 on

If you know anything about Dutch politics you’ll know another will take his place. Hell, if migration happens to be a big topic right around the time voting takes place he’ll probably be the biggest again.

    13. Scotandia21 on

Huh, what do you know, parties that rely purely on raging at the government lose their support once they *become* the government

    14. For context: PVV far right, GL-PvdA green-socialist VVD right liberal, NSC right conservative, D66 liberal, BBB farmers, CDA Christian democrats, SP socialist

    15. ulchathair on

I wouldn’t say ‘collapsed’ though. Yes, down from polling at 50 seats to sub-30 seats (out of the 150 seats we have in parliament). They have lost a lot. But still ~17-19% of voters would vote for PVV.

    16. CapablePool7283 on

It is truly unbelievable how left wing and pro EU without any kind of self reflection this sub is. Keep your heads in the sand and Europe like we have known it will be gone in 10 years.

    17. ProductGuy48 on

This just shows what I have always believed, that the way to collapse the far right is to allow them to be in power in a coalition that can prevent them from going over board. The more you attempt to isolate them and form coalitions to keep them out of power the more they grow.

    18. Jodelawifi on

Still, the issue of migration is important to a very large portion of the population and the centre and left-wing parties don’t address it well enough. That’s why they keep losing voters to radical right-wing parties.

    19. Fastluck83 on

Populists are really good at stirring up resentment and turning this resentment into votes. When it’s time to turn words into action they usually fail spectacularly.

I hope I will live to see the day when people wisen up to this simple truth.

    20. Sproeier on

My prediction for the next Dutch cabinet. PVV, VVD and something like the FVD or SGP.

Sure VVD is now saying they will never work with them again but they are and always have been extremely opportunistic. PVV will also probably grow again since they will successfully blame everyone besides themselves, their voterbase will probably eat it up.

This is at the same time the worst case as the most likely scenario. I don’t see any indication that the Netherlands won’t vote for the (extreme)right in the next election. PVV has been campaigning for this scenario since this cabinet started constantly throwing everyone under the bus.

    21. Party-Benefit5112 on

Is being the biggest party at 28-29% that much of a collapse?

    22. Connect-Idea-1944 on

countries should have a far right government at least once to understand how bad it is, that’s what’s happening or happened in Finland, poland, slovakia, etc..
