“I couldn’t imagine on top of everything else that goes through a woman’s mind and the families who go through the experience of losing a baby, miscarriage or stillbirth that the threat that the police can turn up and question or inspect the house or telephone.”
Fucking dystopian.

>They include allowing searches of mothers’ mobile phones if a baby dies unexpectedly in the womb.
>The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) said such cases were rarely investigated and only if there was suspicion an illegal abortion had taken place, with each case treated with “sensitivity”.
As rare as that may be the fact that it’s even _possible_ is beyond comprehension. Police should never have the power to search one’s phone for being suspected of a post-24 weeks abortion.

>Six women in the UK have appeared in court over the past two years charged with ending their own pregnancy, [according to the British Medical Journal](https://www.bmj.com/content/389/bmj.r1036.full).
>Before this, only three convictions for an illegal abortion had been reported since the law was introduced in 1861.
This is a worrying start in what seems to be a backdoor attempt to criminalize abortion and is precisely why our current laws need to be codified properly. At the moment all abortions are criminal by default with mothers having to find some exception. Our case law is very forgiving in that the physical and mental health of a mother is an acceptable reason in all cases.
With idiots like farage becoming vocal on the issue and the same stupid voices we see in the states getting involved (see the ‘silent prayer’ bollocks), the current laws are incredible vulnerable. These guidelines open the door to degrading nuisance investigations from the police that will put many people off exercising their legal rights to abortion that is only set to get worse.
It cannot be allowed.

What’s the end goal here? As they say it is something that is rarely investigated, presumably those cases which are investigated are quite egregious. Should there be no investigations?

The amount of people unironically advocating for legal 9 month abortions in this thread is crazy, I agree abortion access should be easier pre 24 weeks.
But I can’t think of any justification for 9 month abortions being legal and easy to access, at that point it is killing a healthy baby.
Basically all of Western Europe has some kind of time limit on abortion.

It’s funny how so called westerners are slowly adopting a third world view of women. Who would’ve thought
