Yep, 100%. It’s not “natural” when investors buy up everything, wages don’t keep up, and cities block new housing. It’s man-made, and it sucks.
Of course it’s man made. It’s been deliberate government policy.
And on the article itself, phrases like “market-led paradigm” make me wince and doubt the rest of the article. The structure of a market – any market – is largely defined by government policy. Whether there’s a market in something at all is defined by government policy.
The structure of the Irish housing market is defined by government policy. And the goal of that policy is to restrict supply so that housing becomes and then remains expensive.
Usual nonsense waffling on about the market.
It’s far from market led, it’s the most interfered with sector we have after health and education.
Not a crisis for 70%
An entirely artificially restricted market.
Once people say the house is worth “what you are willing to pay” we have a problem. It shouldn’t work like that.
It’s called cronyism and fucking your country over for personal gain.
FF created bottleneck. Their policys and scheme’s to limit builds and block planning permissions, stop people building on their own land because you’re not allowed a home unless you’re married and or rich and even then only what the government offers.. thats not choice its a scam.
Stop voting for FF/FG
It should be declared a National emergency and dealt with as such, in the way that Covid was declared an international emergency, masses of funding poured into solutions and roll out. That kind of tackling of a problem can only happen at governmental level.
