They were denied because they failed to attend a meeting and submit a risk assessment. That seems pretty reasonable. Not sure why this is a news story.

My initial thoughts before reading the article have now changed. I’m a carnival going veteran and ultimately it is a highly populated event, and the sound systems and floats all need to (and usually do) adhere to health and safety rules. Seems like the individual from these guys didn’t for whatever reason. I’m sure there will be plenty others ready to step in at short notice.

It’s a one day carnival!!! Refusing is making the nimbys a public nuisance

Every job has aspects that aren’t as enjoyable as the rest, but you do them anyway. If the team had no interest in doing risk assessments or attending the associated meetings, then they should have hired someone to do these things. Sounds like they weren’t serious enough about safety, so for the best the license was denied.

I mean… it is a public nuisance. And turns the place into an even bigger shit hole. Not to mention the many stabbings each year

From the videos I’ve seen online I think it’s come the time this was moved from the streets to a massive.field somewhere with stricter security.

It is pretty well known that Nottingham Hill Carnival is unsafe and only getting worse. Failure to submit a risk assessment and attend the required meetings is more than enough justification to stop them getting a licence, however there is still the case to be made for poor safety at the festival generally that has still gone unanswered.
