I’m very skeptical about these sanctions, to be honest. Even if the Senate stops catering to Trump, I don’t think the 500% tariffs will be effective mainly because they’ll hurt the U.S. economy too. At the same time, halting sanctions on Russia while Russia shows no interest in negotiating to end the war is ridiculous.
The New York Times recently reported that Trump thinks Zelenskyy is dragging the world into World War III. But given recent events, it seems more like Trump himself is pushing the world in that direction. His pressure isn’t just on Ukraine it’s undermining the entire U.S. alliance network. Meanwhile, Russia and other authoritarian regimes are facing little to no pressure.
In his first term, Trump helped normalize nuclear threats by cozying up to North Korea. This term will be same if not worse
