On June 20, 1987, PKK terrorists raided Pınarcık village in Mardin’s Ömerli district at around 21:30 in a village of 16 households and 60 inhabitants. The PKK group, numbering around 30 people, blockaded the village. The PKK terrorists then spread throughout the village and killed 30 people, including 16 children and 6 women. Eight houses belonging to the mukhtar and village guards were burned. 65 cattle and sheep perished.

After the attack, PKK terrorists left a leaflet signed by the Kurdistan National Liberation Army (ARGK) affiliated to the PKK at the scene. (7. photo)

“Agent militia gangs who are worthless henchmen of the fascist Turkish colonialism hostile to Kurdistan and Kurdishness: No power can save you from the bullets of the people’s liberation forces. Surrender to the Kurdistan National Liberation Army without committing any more crimes against the people. Ask for forgiveness from the people. Account for your crimes.” As can be seen in the 7th photo, the PKK called the civilians it killed “agent militia gangsters, worthless lackeys of Turkish colonialism”.

The Pınarcık Massacre has been accepted and even proud of by the PKK from day one. In their official publication Serxwebûn, this murderous massacre is proudly described.

According to the PKK, slaughtering Kurdish babies is “demonstrating the determination of our people to become an army”.

      (9. photo) Serxwebûn 1987, June the comments of Abdullah Öcalan on Pınarcık Massacre

“… political village meetings, as most recently on the 21st of June the noble act against the village rangers in Pinarcik, a village of Omerli, has been the pinnacle of likewise mission series. Following Pinarcik, with their phrase “national crisis” started in Tukish colonialism, and the progress of Kurdish National Liberation Combat has been actualized,..”

Abdullah Öcalan praised this massacre against the Kurdish nation as a “noble act”.

      (10. photo) – Serxwebûn August 1987

“19th June, 1987 in the mission executed in Pinarcik, 31 village rangers with their families were killed.”

The PKK declared all the civilians it massacred as “village guards”.

      (11th photo) – Serxwebûn

“The attack of Pinarcik exhibited realities which cannot be denied. A fully armed ARGK group of 80 encircled the village which is situated a few kms near Omerli, and exterminated the enemy. ARGK fighters showed a great tactical and combative spirit, and took the initiation for exterminating the enemy and seizing all the equipment of the occupiers. The nearby enemy forces were inefficient, and could not intervene for the scare of their own lives.”

The PKK gave details of the massacre. The PKK declared the civilians it killed – babies, women and men – as “gangs” and “resisting enemies”.

The PKK declared the civilians it killed as “traitor gangs”.

      (13. photo) Murat Karayılan, the second leader of the PKK, admitted in his book (Bir Savaşın Anatomisi: Kürdistan’da Askeri Çizgi) that the massacre was carried out by the PKK.

“To groups proceeding around Mardin, in unison, carried out attacks starting from Mardin till Botan. However, some of those attacks were executed wrongly, and to this day we are still critical of them.

Those attacks resulted with civilian deaths. There was no instruction of targetting civilians. That was done solely through the group’s atig o their own initiative.

Under the name of acting as bands (gangs) in places like Pinarli, etc (*Here, he most likely means Pinarcik) they carried out assaults with the out-come of dead civilians, women, child aged people lying on the ground.

Obviously there was a situation of great divergence from the main objective. Inclination towards this kind of targets took place for the first time in Mardin. It is known that later on similar atrocities occured in Botan as well.”

For the massacres, Karayilan puts the blame on the group he calls by “Quartet Gang”, consisting of Hogir nicknamed Cemil Isik, Kor Cemal, Terzi Cemal and Semdin Sakik, and continues to tell how later they were all expelled from the organization. Karayilan’s self criticism does not end here. Again implying this “quartet gangs” he openly criticizes the assassinations by the organization.

Şemdin Sakık, a former leader of the PKK, admitted that the massacre in Pınarcık was carried out by the PKK, saying that many of the massacres in the East and Southeast, including the Pınarcık Massacre, were carried out by the Special Operations Unit established by Abdullah Öcalan.

PKK announced in their journal Serxwebun that it was a “noble” act.
      [Serxwebun 1987 (June)](https://serxwebun.org/serxwebun-1987)

They’ve kept attacking the teachers in the region in 80s and 90s and they were proudly claiming this attacks as “we punished the Turkish spies”, and by punishment they mean killing the teachers.

They’ve used violance to spread terror in the region and didn’t have any issues or whatnot claiming the attacks back then. Now the narrative has changed and they’re the cute feminist freedom fighters and try to cover the attacks in the past as “acts of the deep state”.

Doctors, teachers, nurses and other public workers are mandated to serve for certain amount of time (it depends on the profession) in the East and other underdeveloped parts of the country. But since the only dangerous part was east, it’s referred as Compulsory Eastern Service.

One of the most known teachers is [Neşe Alten](https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ne%C5%9Fe_Alten), unfortunately the page is only in Turkish and don’t go into the detail of the events but she was in her 25th day as a teacher and with his father in a village in Diyarbakır. PKK members knocked on their door at night and told they’re from village and need to ask a few questions. When they opened the door father was shot there and Neşe Alten was dragged out of her house and shot with 10 bullets in her chest.

Fighting for Kurdish independence and freedom by massacring Kurds. Classic Pkk.

The attack is deplorable, the perpetrators should be brought to justice. Some say PKK colluded with Turkish Intelligence during the massacre, and there is still collusion and profiteering between PKK and the Turkish Intelligence, Police.

I still support the cause of Kurdish independence, and the rights to the preservation of Kurdish language, culture and identity. Turkish nationalists like to point to this event, but this does not justify or serve as a good reason to oppress the Kurds. Much like I can agree with the main goals of the IRA, but I could never condone massacres, suicide bombing and terrorism. Same with PKK.

    6. Horrible, I’m sure op doesn’t care about the Civilians’ massacre, He came to make his own propaganda

My cousin and aunt were killed by them in 1992. Pulled out of their hotel and shot like dogs. He was 9 years old. And back then they used to release statements after attacks glorifying their deeds. So many people in Europe have no idea how brutal these assholes were. Fuck the PKK.
