Getting scolded by USA on Energy relations with Russia, while Trump himself continues to not only be contact but arguably paving suitable situation for Kremlin is so ridiculous.
And it’s sad to see that Germany has to grin and bear the scolding like a toddler.
It’s sad to be dragged into geo-political conflict, suffer damage, get sold premium priced commodity and then lectured by the very power to not have relationship with the other power, while the said power itself continues to engage.
America acting more as a master than an ally. EU needs to buckle up and get strong. This is humiliation.

A cordial Oval Office meeting ?
Isn’t that the one where Trump trolled Merz saying that D-Day has not been a good day for him ?

Nordstream 1 was a mistake too.

This doesn’t come as a big suprise, Marz has been more critical of nordstream 2 than many of his party. In 2020 he advocated for a 2 year moratorium on the construction (but not a complete canceling) over the Navalny poisoning and he was already questioning the construction in 2018. Now if he would actually have done anything if he was in charge is another question

Cordial office meeting? What are those people smoking. The meeting was far from cordial.

Irrespective of whether you despise Trump, he was spot on with regard to this one.
Of course, this is probably because the Republicans managed to convince him to take a stance against Nordstream 2. Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson played a big role.
Merz admitted it was a mistake, but it wasn’t hard for him to do so because Angela Merkel was his rival for a long time. During the meeting, Trump dissed on Merkel 2 times with regard to immigration and Nordstream 2, and Merz approved noddingly.

It’s an important statement given a [Republican donor](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/05/world/europe/us-russia-nord-stream-gas-pipeline.html) wants to buy it to ‘have control’ and secure cheap gas from Russia
