According to Hetq, units of the Special Army Corps were on combat duty in the area through which Karen Jhangiryan and Andrey Gyagunts crossed the border.
One of the former militiamen familiar with the area said that Jhangiryan and Gyagunts crossed the border in the direction of the village of Jagazur in the Lachin region, through an uncontrolled interposition area.
