Please, let’s do that then, and NOW.

Relying on an unreliable US is not a smart plan.

This is great news, but we’d also need the intelligence if the US withdrew that. That is something Europe can’t match unfortunately. We need to start though.

So according to the article, military aid from the whole EU and Canada combined now accounts for 60% of the total delivered. It’s a bit odd it doesn’t say “60% in terms of what”, i.e. is it 60% in monetary value? 60% in terms of units (vehicles, systems, munitions) across the board? 60% of the freight capacity that was used in the given timeframe?

It’s also the qualitative aspect of the aid that deserves attention, not just the (vague) quantity. Sure, we can “out-supply” the armor, artillery, probably maybe even small arms & artillery rounds from the US now or in the short term, can we manufacture and supply Ukraine with “game-changing” systems, such as mid- and long-range AA interceptor missiles (Patriot, NASAMS), long-range cruise and ballistic missiles (ATACMS M39A1 / M57), counter air defense systems (HARM missiles), state-of-the-art radars, electronic warfare equipment, upgrades and maintenance for F-16s, etc?

Setting that aside, what will matter more in the long term is our ability to sustain the shipments. It might be a good time now for a little PR, when all the jump scares from Trump admin and other states’ reactions to it became most visible on the bottom line atm. But going forward we need investment in production capacity and we need it yesterday at the latest.

I want to see Ukraine win and Europe step up as much as anyone, but I wouldn’t like the public to give governments a pass based on vague PR statements such as this particular one.
