      I can’t wait for the people who berated me on here about supermarket alcohol sales to leap to the defense of children’s rights to play outdoors and definitely not get into trouble.

      Instagram, Snapchat, tiktok, discord. That’s already 8hr a day and too much. Then add in YouTube, Facebook, Twitter plus whatever the next app is, nah this is a paper tiger.

      Well, that certainly sounds like it would be both easily enforceable and technically feasible.

      Do want to point out no decision has been made and won’t be made for many months, Peter Kyle also said they are still looking at all the evidence for this before moving forward or not. This would be unworkable imho.

      The tools to do this are already built into every smartphone and tablet, if only more parents could be bothered to use them.

      A Social Media company in California or a Government Minister in Whitehall are not better placed to regulate the behaviour of a kid who literally lives in your house than you are.

      In every class, in every school in the land there will be a spotty little twerp that will be able to get around this in about 5 seconds flat.

      This is a total waste of time and money. It is totally unenforceable.

      How about parents starting to parent? I take my kids devices away when I choose and I govern what they see and do on the internet.

      The way successive governments underestimate how clever kids get at bypassing this stuff is as hillarious as it is embarrassing. They’re young, not idiots.

      I feel like there have been more negative societal effects from the over-40s spending hours on Facebook everyday, maybe the government should look at limiting their social media access too?

      I feel like a campaign to educate parents on the importance of monitoring screen time would be far more effective. The only people who can really enforce this sort of thing are the parents

      All you do is push people further into the clutches of the dark web.

      It’s like with Porn bans. People instead of following the rules will just find a way around it.

      Kids will do the same with this .

      Doesn’t China do this? We don’t need a Nanny state, we need tools and education that empower parents to take control of their kid’s screen time.

      I don’t even have kids and I agree with this. Kids should be experiencing reality, not bombarded with fake social media posts.

      I would say how they going to enforce that, but then ive met a lot of parents and their kids are usually a lot smarter

      Lots of people in this thread talking about how teenagers will get around this and they’re probably right. But a lot of surprisingly young children use social media, Tik Tok, Instagram etc and they will find it much harder to get around.

      Yeah, let’s not address the reasons causing overuse of social media, let’s just ban it. Worked wonders for drugs.

      Social media ban for everyone under 16. Not on kids having a social media account. No fines for and kid making an account. No court, policing or management of any kid making any account.

      No, company fines, company arrests and company bans for allowing them onto their platform.

      Children should be completely banned from every SM platform full stop.
