ULEZ increase coming for any vehicle that isn’t powered by cabbage

Well seeing as how some of that cash is going North for a change with rail, metro and trams on the menu he will just have to suck it up for once.

    3. London should get fuck all money for a decade, and all that we save from that can be funneled into areas of the country that have been chronically, criminally, underfunded for decades.

London Mayor furious that his city is not getting cash to fund its services. Literally no one should be surprised by this. Got to fight for your interests.

    5. Like london isn’t already the best funded area of the UK by a huge margin

It’s right that London loses out for a while. I say this as someone who lives three, but grew up in the north.

He can cry harder for all I care, it’s about time other places get a boost, London is light years ahead of everywhere else because the rest of the UK has been neglected by comparison

Must be horrible for him to find out other parts of the country exist for the first time

While you can make a point about how London should get no spending on infrastructure at all in favour of other regions, there are some parts of London infrastructure that are, lets say worse for wear.

The most notable is the Bakerloo Line. The trains on that are over 50 years old and no spare parts are made for them any more. They are wearing out and the line is a few breakdowns from being shut down. It desperately needs the cash to be upgraded, and its loss to the capital will be more than noticeable.

Such a crime for the Mayor of London to advocate for London

Honestly, I think we need to devolve more fiscal autonomy to the regions.

It’s not fair that London generates the most amount of revenue, but receives far less than it generates.

It’s also not fair that the regions have not had the levels of investment they need to thrive.

It’s time to decentralise and allow regional governments to raise regional taxation to find regional investment.

Otherwise we’ll constantly be getting into spats like this where we are needlessly strangulating our main money generator, while also not spending enough in the regions that would want it.

Fuck off mate, the rest of the country need some money too

Bit of a mess really. I know people like to hate on London but this is a symptom; Funding here is far too centralised.

For example: the Mayor of New York controls around 50% of the tax revenue the city raises. In Paris, it’s about 30%. In Tokyo, it’s 70%.

      London? Just 7%.

Centralisation is slow and honestly unproductive alot of the time; Our major cities need more autonomy to shape their own futures for there own needs. Rather than the government spending it on whatever they think is best.. allow the local assemblies to do it.
