French pornographic actors and actresses fear a loss of visibility and income, while also stressing the importance of preventing minors from accessing their content.
In the message displayed on Pornhub since the site was blocked in France on Wednesday, June 4, Aylo, the Canadian company that operates the pornographic site, explained in detail that it preferred to suspend access to its platforms in France rather than comply with the law aimed at securing and regulating the digital space – legislation it argues compromises privacy rights.
There was not a single word, however, for adult content creators. While they can still upload their videos to the platform, as Aylo’s communications team confirmed to *Le Monde*, they are the most directly affected by this unprecedented measure.
Those interviewed by *Le Monde* said they felt “devastated,” expressing anxiety and weariness. “We all want minors to be kept away from our content and to have better sex education that doesn’t rely on pornography,” said Carmina, a director and actress in alternative pornography. “But I don’t think this law is the best way to achieve that.”
While former porn stars [Céline Tran and Nikita Bellucci](https://www.bfmtv.com/tech/vie-numerique/il-etait-temps-le-blocage-de-pornhub-salue-par-des-personnalites-du-monde-du-porno_AV-202506040542.html) praised Pornhub’s voluntary suspension on French news channel BFM-TV, citing the protection of children and teenagers, current creators in France lamented that neither Pornhub nor the government, which initiated the new legal framework, consulted them.

And once again, politics necromanced the absolutely amazing idea of restricting access to something a vast majority of people want…the outcomes of which (people easily circumventing the restricition and/or turning to uncontrolled sources of the good or service, while livelyhoods of people who made a legitimate business in that area are threatened) again completely surprise them.
Kids are doom scrolling brain death content on youtube, tiktok, app stores, facebook, news… get bombarded with ads every 30 seconds, lost all privacy to google & META and this is the key issue?

and they think kids are not going to use proxys to buypass the restricion ?
people will ridicule these women here in the comments, but it’s not a laughing matter at all. these are honest sex workers. when it comes to conservative decision making, it’s seemingly always to hurt women 🤷
You can mock these people all you want, but this is bad in many ways.
Think of all the teens that will now still search for their dose of porn, only now, they will have to get it from “darker” websites. Nothing good can come of this.
Who cares?
It’s completely stupid. Fully legal sites like PornHub have good checks in place to filter out the extremely problematic shit. The are monitored, respond to take down requests and cooperate with law enforcement.
Now they size operations. Do they think people will just stop watching porn? That all porn sites will bend the knee? No. Some of the legal ones probably will, most probably won’t. Instead they will block access and people will go to the illegal sites where nothing gets checked or deleted.
Good job.
Pursuing a relatively harmless form of entertainment can never be good. How is this worse for a kid’s brain than Tiktok?
People would do anything, but get an actual job!
She can escort, perfectly legal there.
I don’t have a clue how to properly deal with these down stream effects other than the general rule of seeking to have a flexible work market.
Pornhub is like a controlled brothel.
This is just bad news for many reasons.
livelihood? they just wanted kids to not have access. The greedy comps refuse to do hard age verification…
France: You guys need to verify your visitors are 18 or older.
PornHub: Nah, fuck that. We’re roaching out. See ya.
r\Europe: OMG FRANCE PURITAN BRAINS DESTROYIGN LIVELYHOODS
I don’t really understand the extreme negative reactions to this measure from France. ID was always require for accessing 18+ content and this only changed with the internet because it was the wild west. It’s not crazy to require proof of age for accessing content that is for adults. As long as it is done by a double blind service, it shouldn’t be an issue, and my understanding is that this is the method being used. Please explain to me why this is so terrible, because all I see is something fairly mundane. And please don’t give me the argument that people will find ways around the limit, because that argument basically expands to “laws are useless because people can go around them”
VPNs on the way
I don’t really get it. They still can make content and it will be available for other countries (and to french people who have ever heard of even a free vpn…). Do they think french only watch french porn, spanish only watch spanish porn, and so on ?
Or you could have a look and question why did PH decide they would much rather remove themselves than comply with the requirements.
Likely there are violations, controls don’t work, and the fines they’d get would be too high. 🙂
Looks like a great job by France to me.
Can we just end this “minors accessing stuff they shouldn’t” bs?
Ofc they are. Dudes. In the early early days of IT classes, we literally found ways around every single fkn filter and watched the most obscene shit – IN CLASS – and those were the pre-laptop days with a computer room and eeeeeveryone was there and you had to ask permission and log hours and the admin was literally a guy on a main computer checking everything – in the pre-safe-web days – when it was a whole lot of viruses disguised as “Eminem new song rare” and videos of serbian neo nazis beheading people.
We lived. The modern kids will too. No amount of blocking the web will deter them.
This seems a rather absurd fight. You can probably easily go around that kind of restriction just by using a VPN, and it is not like the internet is not already full of porn even without PornHub around, and that includes Reddit (and the number of NSFW subs on this very website I have accidentally stumbled across is quite impressive by the way).
I can perfectly understand why some people would want to try to regulate it and to prevent minors from accessing it, but implementing that kind of restriction seems to me to be rather complicated and the easy way it can be circumvented makes it a rather futile endeavour.
And let’s not pretend that horny teenagers were not accessing porn a long time before the internet existed. It may have made that easier, but it did not fundamentally change that.
Good business for VPN vendors I guess.
Yeah I don’t like this at all. People will always want to find this stuff. Bring it into the light with proper regulation, rather than moving it underground.
Is this another case when they require age verification BUT also identifying user?
So practically another case when lawmakers don’t want to know just the age of the person viewing content but wants to know WHO exactly watches the content?
All the articles just say that PornHub does not want to comply to stricter age verification laws. What does it mean exactly?
In Spain we tell this kind of people with bullshit jobs to “Pick the shovel”
