What a stupid initiative. Bases feed so many families and provide work for so many people.
Decolonize why? What do we get? The republic of cyprus will now better manage the akrotiri area biology?
Of course we lease to foreign bases, and we should have given the Americans as well.
Military bases bleed money into the areas they are in. Easy to deny that as intelligentsia who never had to worry about food.
How much of a deterrent are British bases on Cyprus though?
If Cyprus had given/granted US bases in 60s Turkey would never have invaded
If they gonna lease the land at least keep it clean and give the people a piece of the money they pay the goverment
